General Metal Heat Treating, Inc.

Rely on Quality and Precision

Although many customers require only commercial specifications, General Metal can meet, and in many cases exceed, MIL-H-6875, MIL-H-7199, MIL-S-6090, MIL-C-45662, MIL-45208, ASME Section III (NA 4000), AMS-2759, AMS-6875 Cleveland Air Procurement MO-C1-66-st, and other applicable specifications as an approved U.S. Government heat treating source.

Quality Engineering

Three internal departments control the quality to meet and exceed the above specifications, offering you, the customer, a written certification after each and every job and/or heat treating process, if requested.

Process Engineering establishes and enforces the heat treating process on every job. Each phase of the process is recorded at General Metal and on the invoice order. This department also conducts a semi-annual internal audit that requires the surveillance and inspection of personnel and equipment to assure conformance with existing quality control procedures. The Instrument Department provides and maintains the calibration of instruments used in thermal processing according to the National Bureau of Standards.

Daily probes as well as weekly, monthly, and yearly inspections correlate furnace temperatures from ±5°F. to ±25°F., as applicable. These inspections include temperature uniformity surveys, calibration of thermocouples and potentiometers, etc.

The Quality Control Department checks furnace environments via infra-red analyzers, micro-hardness, leco, metallurgical microscope and testing of quench solutions, as well as decarburization checks. Case depth and carbon restored work are checked metallographically per load. Moreover, the lab provides testing and facilities for trouble-shooting customer problems.
